Up to government to avoid crisis: CPI-M

New Delhi : The Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) said Thursday that it was not interested in creating a crisis for the government over the India-US nuclear deal while reiterating its strong objection to the agreement.

“We do not want this crisis to affect the government but that is contingent upon the government not proceeding further with the agreement,” CPI-M general secretary Prakash Karat told reporters, reading out a prepared statement after a two-day meeting of the party central committee.

He said his party did not want the government to go ahead with “operationalising” the nuclear deal with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
