The waiver was given by the state cabinet at its meeting here under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda.

The trips made by these VIPs – former chief ministers and state ministers – in the official aircraft of the state were for private purposes. The journeys were made several years ago.

The beneficiaries include former chief ministers Devi Lal, B.D. Gupta and former state ministers Sampat Singh, Ranjit Singh and Azmat Khan.

A state government spokesman defended the waiver and said: “This was done in view of the judgements of various courts”.
