“It’s nice to see clouds after days and we expect an overcast sky coupled with thundershowers on Sunday,” said an official of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) here.

“Two low pressure areas have developed over western Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand. This would bring rain to the capital and some of the adjoining north Indian states,” he said.

Several places in Delhi like Connaught Place, Palam airport, ITO, Laxmi Nagar, R.K. Puram reported drizzles in the afternoon.

On Saturday, the capital witnessed a maximum temperature of 35 degrees Celsius (one degree above normal) and a minimum of 28 degrees (two degrees above normal).

Monsoon had officially hit the Indian capital June 28 but there had been hardly any rain barring a couple of days of downpours.

Residents, who are battling several hours of power cuts hoped they could now enjoy their weekend in peace.

“Cloudy sky has really rejuvenated our hope for a better Sunday. We wish it rains for a few days so that we can get relief from the ongoing power crisis,” said Sumati Pradhan, a housewife.

Delhi is facing a shortage of 600 MW of power every day forcing people to suffer four to six hours of blackouts.
