Trains have started plying on the 96-km route since Monday, a railway official said here.

The Koti railway station, which is around 75 km from here, was almost entirely washed away after heavy rains triggered landslides Aug 12.

A seven-member Unesco team will be arriving Sep 11 to examine the 104-year-old railway track and decide on awarding it heritage status.

The track winds through spectacular scenic mountains and has 103 tunnels.
