Islamabad : Pakistani military has strongly refuted reports that some 19 local militants were killed in a coalition forces attack inside Pakistan, for which prior permission from Pakistani military was obtained.
A spokesman of Pakistan’s Inter-Service Public Relations said no permission has been granted to coalition forces for carrying out strikes inside Pakistani territory and no attack or firing incident has taken place, according to state-run news agency Associated Press of Pakistan (APP).
The spokesman reiterated that there is no understanding between Pakistan and coalition forces for carrying out operations within Pakistani territory.
Pakistani security forces are capable of undertaking any operation against militants within Pakistan, said the spokesman, who added that it would be better if people in positions of responsibility refrain from issuing such baseless statements, which do nothing but vitiate the environment.
A foreign news agency report published Monday by newspapers said at least 19 local Taliban were killed when US-led coalition forces and Afghan forces fired across the Afghan-Pakistani border on insurgents inside Pakistan.
The Afghanistan-based coalition said in a statement issued Sunday Pakistani military had given permission for the action, which was denied by a military spokesman of Pakistan, according to the report.
