Chennai : AIADMK strongman T.T.V. Dinakaran was Tuesday divested of the post of the party treasurer in a major reshuffle of posts by party chief J. Jayalalitha who told her cadres that parliamentary elections could be round the corner.

Dinakaran, a nephew of Jayalalitha’s confidante Sasikala, has been replaced by trusted Jayalalitha aide O. Panneerselvam, a party press statement Tuesday said.

Jayalalitha made the reshuffle after consulting district leaders of her party.

Panneerselvam was chief minister in 2001 briefly until the courts cleared Jayalalitha’s election to the chief minister’s post. At present he is the deputy leader of the opposition in the assembly.

Former minister M. Thambidurai has been rehabilitated in a big way and is the new propaganda secretary, an important position.

AIADMK veteran and a former union minister P.H. Pandian has been made the party organisation secretary. The aged Pandian had been holding the post of minorities wing president for long. Edapadi Palanichamy will also be an organisation secretary.

The party’s election wing, which was Panneerselvam’s responsibility, has now been given to Pollachi Jayaraman, a former minister.

Fishermen wing secretary D. Jayakumar, also a former law minister, will now look after the MGR forum in place of E. Madusudanan, the presidium chairman.

The party fisheries wing will now be taken care of by K.K. Kalaimani.
