New Delhi : As the nation was aghast at the Bihar police’s brutality on a youngster alleged to be a thief, Railway Minister and Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) president Lalu Prasad asked Chief Minister Nitish Kumar to step down.
Mohammad Aurangzeb alias Saleem of Nathnagar town in Bhagalpur, about 150 km from Bihar capital Patna, was severely beaten by a mob Monday after he was caught on suspicion of snatching a woman’s chain.
Two policemen – who were suspended Tuesday – reached the spot, tied one of his legs to the back of their motorcycle and dragged him along the rough and bumpy road for not less than 100 metres.
Asked for his reaction, Lalu Prasad told reporters here, “This has only exposed the real face of Nitish’s widely publicised rule of law.
“If Nitish is really concerned about the plight of the poor man and is sincere about maintaining law and order, he should immediately slap a case under Section 308 of the Indian Penal Code (attempt to culpable homicide) on the concerned police officer,” Lalu Prasad said.
“Otherwise, Nitish should stop talking about law and order and instead resign.”
