Srinagar/Jammu : At least seven persons, including five army personnel, were killed and thirteen others were wounded in two separate road mishaps across Kashmir Valley, since last 24 hours.
Five army personnel were killed and one sustained injuries when an army vehicle skidded off the road and fell into a gorge near Ramban on Jammu-Srinagar National Highway, official sources told News Agency of Kashmir.
Giving details, they said a army anti-mine vehicle (Casper) was on a routine patrolling on the Highway this morning. When it reached near Digdol the driver lost control over the vehicle which skidded off the road and fell into a deep gorge.
Four soldiers were killed on the spot, while two others sustained critical injuries.
Police said that a rescue operation was immediately launched and injured were shifted to Ramban hospital. One of the injured later succumbed to his injuries in the hospital.
Meanwhile, an official spokesman said that a tipper (JK01K-3403) hit and injured a scooterist and his pillion rider in Budgam area, this morning. The injured were rushed to local hospital, where one of them succumbed to his injuries.
The deceased has been identified as Mushtaq Ahmad Sofi son of Ghulam Rasool of Dadna.
A fifty year old lady was hit and injured by a Tata sumo at Poshwari area. Identified as Saja wife of Ghulam Mohammad Dar of Poshwari Naid Khai, the injured later breathed her last in the hospital.
Meanwhile, a Sumo bearing registration number JK02R skidded off the road and hit a tree near Y.K Pora causing injuries to eleven persons. The injured have been hospitalized.
