Haryana to promote Pinjore festival like Surajkund fair

Chandigarh : The Haryana government will promote its Pinjore heritage festival on the lines of the famous Surajkund fair that is held in February every year near New Delhi, the state’s tourism minister Kiran Chaudhary said Monday.

The festival at the 17th century Mughal-era Pinjore Gardens, about 20 km from here, will be held from Dec 7-9.

Chaudhary said the festival would have a Mughal-era type street market. This will comprise a crafts bazaar and a food court. Cultural performances by leading groups will be held on all three evenings of the festival.

“We want to brand Haryana for tourism and heritage. This festival will be a mini-Surajkund of its kind. Over 60 craftsmen are coming from all over the country for this festival,” the tourism minister said.

A run-for-fun will also be organized at Panchkula town near here on Dec 7 to promote the festival in which cricket players participating in the ongoing Indian Cricket League (ICL) Twenty20 championship will participate.
