Handover Babri Masjid site to Muslims: British Indian Muslims

Statement of the Council of Indian Muslims (UK):

“Babri Mosque demolition and Gujarat massacre have left deep scars on Muslim psyche and unfortunately no concrete step has been taken by the Indian Government to cure this pain.” Chairman of Council of Indian Muslims—UK (CIM) Mr Mohammad Munaf Zeena has said in a statement issued today.

Marking the 16th anniversary of Babri Mosque, demolished 15 years ago in Ayodhya, Mr Zeena said, “One finds it extremely frustrating that those who pulled down the mosque in full media glare, incited attacks on Muslims and rejoiced on those atrocities are roaming free while no compassion has been shown in punishing the Muslims for their alleged involvement in the 1992 riots in Mumbai despite the fact that in its report Justice Sri Krishna Commission had clearly identified the perpetrators of these riots and CBI had charge sheeted the inciters of the demolition of Babri Mosque.”

“Such discriminatory policies create negative psyche that is detrimental to the development of any society.” Zeena said.

Zeena urged the Indian Government to hand over the Babri Mosque site to Muslims and allow them to rebuild the mosque in its place.

Babri Mosque was demolished by Hindu zealots on 6th December 1992 who claim that the Mosque stood on the site of the birth place of Hindu deity Rama. The Mosque was built in 1528 by Baqi Beg Tashqandi, the Governor General of Mughal Emperor Babar to mark the victory of Mughal army over Pathan King Sikandar Lodhi and there is no historic or archaeological evidence to prove either of Babar’s going to Ayodhya or the existence of a Hindu temple on Babri Mosque site. With the connivance of the administration the Mosque was closed to Muslims in 1949 and converted into a de facto temple after the statues of Rama and his consort Sita were stealthily put there.
