Angolan, Sudanese Presidents hold talks at Lisbon Summit

Lisbon : Angolan President José Eduardo dos Santos has held talks here on the sidelines of the Second Europea-Africa Summit with his Sudanese counterpart, Omar El Bashir, with whom he discussed matters concerning the conflict in Darfur.

According to the Sudanese president, the meeting Sunday served to discuss the efforts to bring peace to the province of Darfur in western Sudan. He said he also discussed with the Angolan president matters concerning the co-operation between the two countries in various domains.

Meanwhile, the Angolan president also held meetigs here Sunday morning with the President of Mauritania, Sidi Aballahi, and Austrian Chancellor Alfred Gusenbauer, with whom he discussed bilateral co-operation issues.

The chancellor said their meeting touched on unilateral and multilateral matters concerning the southern African region, in view of the role which Angola plays in the region in its capacity as chairman of the Southern Africa Development Community (SADC) defence and security organ.

He added that President Eduardo dos Santos invited Austrian President Heins Fischer to visit Angola.

On Saturday, President Eduardo dos Santos met the leaders of Bulgaria, Georgi Parvanov, Burundi, Pierre Nkurunziza, and Rwanda, Paul Kagame, with whom he discussed bilateral issues.

He also met German Chancellor Angela Merkel, and the Prime Ministers of Spain, José Luís Zapatero, and of Cape Verde, José Maria das Neves.
