Asia-Pacific news agencies seek closer cooperation

Baku : The 13th General Assembly of the Organization of the Asia-pacific News Agencies began its work in Indonesian capital Jakarta on Tuesday. Themed “News Agencies in the Media Convergence Era: Strengthening and Promoting Asia Pacific Voices”, the forum is attended by heads of news agencies from 40 countries of the region, including Azerbaijan represented here by the State Telegraph Agency AzerTAc.

Opening the event, Vice-President of Indonesia Yusuf Kalla described OANA as an important component of the global information space, promoting cooperation among news agencies in fight against challenges and threats of nowadays, and finding effective solutions to the global professional problems.

According to the OANA President Datuk Azman Ujang, the scope of the participating agencies covers 60% of the global population.

He stressed the need for closer cooperation among regional agencies in the globalizing world and for the support of those recently entered the global information space.

After the opening ceremony, the General Assembly continued with speeches by heads of participating news agencies, including Director General of AzerTAc.

Later, Indonesian Vice-President hosted an official reception in honor of the forum?s participants. The OANA 13th General Assembly continues its work.
