US observing unilateral approach even at 5+1 G – IRI Envoy

Moscow : Iran’s Ambassador to Moscow here Wednesday criticized the illogical approach of Washington and some EU countries regarding our country’s nuclear program regardless of entire evidence on its peaceful nature.

Gholam-Reza Ansari added in an interview with IRNA, “US and the West despite their former claims on need for establishment of the 5+1 Group, disregard Moscow and Beijing’s opposition to unilateralism and need for adoption of a positive approach regarding Iran’s peaceful nuclear program.”

He further emphasized, “Disregarding the Russian Federation and China’s stands, as well as the facts presented in the NIE report of 16 intelligence agencies regearing the peaceful nature of Iran’s nuclear activities, which are contrary to the slogans chanted by Washington regarding the harmonious approach of 5+1 and its international responsibilities regarding Iran’s atomic program.”

He reiterated, “The Russian officials had from the beginning of their cooperation with Iran stated that Iran should pursue its activities entirely under the supervision of the IAEA, and are now announcing that the process of Iran-IAEA should not be damaged due to pressure and threats.”

Ansari referred to the positive stands adopted by Russia regarding Iran’s nuclear program so far and Moscow’s righteous objection against the US unilateralism, adding, “The recent National Intelligence Estimate (NIE) was a great political humiliation to Washington and strong proof for Iran and Russia’s constantly repeated stands.” Pointing out that Iran has never been after acquiring nuclear weapons, he said, “The Russian officials, too, have in adopting their stands always emphasized over this matter, thus blocking the path for Western extremist approach against Iran, although the US has kept on insisting on its unilateral approach regardless of Moscow and Beijing’s viewpoints within 5+1.”

Turning to Iran-Russia comprehensive cooperation and their shared stands on regional issues, such as Iraq, Afghanistan, and the Middle East crises, he said, “The crises in this region can be solved merely through heeding their real root causes.”

Iran’s Ambassador to Moscow who was speaking with IRNA shortly before the establishment of Iran-Russia Joint Cooperation Commission, pointing out both countries’ opposition against US unilateralism, said that the Tehran and Moscow can cooperate in this field effectively.

He said that the two countries’ cooperation within the international and regional bodies and shared stands regarding the developments in Central Asian and Caucasus region developments are satisfactory and still improving.

The Seventh Iran-Russia Joint Economic Cooperation Commission would begin its activities in Moscow on Thursday.

Islamic Republic of Iran’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Manouchehr Mottaki and the Head of the Russian Federation’s Federal Nuclear nergy Agency Sergei Kiriyenko would be heading the two countries’ delegations at that Commission.
