India test-fires nuclear capable ”Akash” missile for the second consecutive day

NEW DELHI, Dec 14 (KUNA) — India Friday successfully test fired a surface-to-air nuclear capable ‘Akash’ missile from a defence base in Eastern Indian state of Orissa for the second consecutive day.

The missile was tested from a mobile launcher at the Integrated Test Range at Chandipur on sea in Orissa targeting a flying object released from a fighter aircraft ‘Lakshya’ today, news agency Indo Asian News Service reported, quoting a defence source.

The missile uses the integrated two-stage RAMJET propulsion technology to carry a maximum 50 kg payload, the news agency said. Akash, weighs 650 kg and has a range of 25 km and has been developed by India’s Defence Research and Development Organisation.
India’s defence scientists had tested the Akash missile from the same test range yesterday.
