Islamabad : Interim Minister for Information and Broadcasting Nisar A Memon Saturday reiterated government’s pledge to take all possible steps for ensuring free, fair and transparent elections in the country. Talking to PTV he urged the people, candidates and political parties to pin point any foul play, the interim government as well as election commission will immediately rectify the wrong and ensure level playing field for all irrespective of their party affiliations.
He urged the political parties to cooperate with the government in maintaining law and order situation in the country.The government has planned maximum security around polling stations to ensure safety of voters and candidates.
Regarding curbs on media he said media freedom interrupted on November 3 was being restored gradually as most of the private channels are back on air barring a few.
Print media in country is enjoying total freedom and expressing its views openly.
Responding to a question he said on taking charge, the interim government released more than 5,000 detainees.Currently only three are in protective custody.
