Kabul : Three Canadian soldiers were injured in southern Afghanistan Sunday when their vehicle was hit by an explosive device, while two Afghan civilians were killed in eastern Afghanistan when a bomb hit their vehicle, police said.
According to the military release, the soldiers’ armored vehicle was struck by the bomb in Arghanda district during an operation to detect such devices. One of the three Canadian soldiers was seriously injured.
Also Sunday, two Afghan civilians died when a bomb hit their vehicle in eastern Afghanistan near the border with Pakistan. Two other civilians were wounded in the remote-controlled bomb blast.
Meanwhile, Italian Prime Minister Romano Prodi, Australian Prime Minister Kevin Rudd, and French President Nicolas Sarkozy, made short visits to Afghanistan this weekend.
Prodi arrived in Afghanistan Sunday morning to meet with Afghan President Hamid Karzai and to visit with his country’s troops participating in the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force.
