According to official television channel PTV, the suicide attacker detonated a bomb packed with ball bearings and nails amid hundreds of holiday worshippers marking the Islamic holiday of Eid al-Adha.

The blast was reported to have been aimed against former Pakistani interior minister Aftab Ahmad Khan Sherpao, who had been target of an attack on April 28, but he survived the attack. One of his sons, however, sustained leg injuries.

The previous bomb attack against Sherpao was staged during an electoral meeting in Charsadda locality, about 14 miles from Peshawar, leaving 28 dead and 40 wounded.

The northern bordering regions with Pakistan have seen suicide bomb attacks since Pakistani Special Forces attacked the Red Mosque on July 11.

More than 800 people lost their lives in that wave of violence hitting this South Asian country.
