Two hundred ground troops from both armies participated in the five-day long Hand in Hand 2007 drill, which was aimed at raising the combat ability of both armies to fight against terrorism.

The deputy chief of the General Staff of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA), Lieutenant General Ma Xiaotian, said the joint military training promoted the development of bilateral strategic cooperative partnership and also enhanced mutual understanding and trust between them.

The official added that the cooperation and communication between the Chinese and Indian armies play an important role in the development of a strategic association between the two neighbouring countries.

China and India signed an agreement last year to regularize military training and personnel exchanges, and since then they have held a series of visits and other events.
