Russia, Libya Preparing Putin Visit to Tripoli

Moscow : The governments of Russia y Libya are giving the final touches on Tuesday to the agenda for the visit of President Vladimir Putin to Trípoli, during which he is expected to sign several bilateral cooperation agreements.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov failed to reveal the date for the visit, but stressed that Putin’s meeting with Libyan leader Muammar El Khadafi must be carefully prepared.

He noted that the package of agreements to be the center of negotiations is impressive, as they cover wide ranging sectors of economic, political, military collaboration.

According to Lavrov, the parties will move forward in completing talks regarding key issues to achieve good results in Russian-Libyan relations, including the rescheduling of Libyan foreign debt owed to the former Soviet Union.

In this regard, Lavrov said there is an atmosphere of willingness to solve outstanding issues and find an acceptable solution by the parties leading to increased cooperation.
