Security for ex-Pakistani PM Benazir demanded in election campaign

Islamabad : Pakistan’s major political party on Tuesday demanded full security for its leader Benazir Bhutto, who survived twin suicide attacks on October 12.

Around 140 people were killed and many injured when the bombers struck huge procession to welcome her on arrival in the port city of Karachi at the end of 8-year exile.

Benazir’s Pakistan People Party asked the Interior Ministry to provide “Fault-free Jammers” along with technician to ensure full protection from any attempt of attack through improvised devices.

Dr. Rehman Malik, the security advisor to Benazir Bhutto, in a letter addressed to the secretary of interior wrote “I regret to inform that the Jammers provided by Sindh Police to cover the movements of Benazir Bhutto, did not work, which is a serious lapse in the light of serious security threat”.

Interior Minister Hamid Nawaz Khan said on Monday that Benazir Bhutto and several other leaders are under threat.

Malik said that the Jammers provided for the protection of Benazir Bhutto during her trip to the city of Rahim Yar Khan in Punjab on Monday failed to work exposing Benazir Bhutto to a ‘high risk’.
