PPP terms Benazir assassination a “cowardly act”

By IANS

Islamabad : The Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) described the assassination of their leader and former prime minister Benazir Bhutto as a “cowardly act”. It has hinted that president Pervez Musharraf is in a way responsible for her death as his government did not pay heed to its demand for effective jammers and other security instruments.

Confirming the assassination of Bhutto, PPP general secretary Riaz Khan said, “It is a cowardly attack on her life. It is not an attack on her but on the poor people of Pakistan.”

When asked whether PPP held President Musharraf responsible for the attack, Khan said, “I do believe so as all those jamming instruments that we demanded were not given. The instruments provided were faulty. We wrote three times to the ministry of interior but there was no response.”

Khan said that elections in Pakistan should be postponed. “Who will contest now?” he asked.
