Shimla : The Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) opened its account in the Himachal Pradesh assembly Friday by winning a seat in the 68-member house.
BSP’s Sanjay Chaudhary, 41, won from Kangra. Although the party espouses the cause of Dalits, it won from a seat in the general category.
It lost all other seats it contested. But it ended up eating into the Congress vote base, contributing to the latter’s defeat. The BSP put up candidates in 67 constituencies.
