The meeting of ECP has concluded here on Tuesday and an official announcement is expected to be made on the timing of polls, said the report.

Some local media reported earlier that the date for the general elections would be delayed until the end of February.

The slain former prime minister Benazir Bhutto’s People’s Party(PPP) has said that any delay of the general elections would be “unacceptable” and they urged the ECP to hold elections as scheduled.

Former prime minister Nawaz Sharif also called for the government to hold elections in time.

The pro-Musharraf party Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid said on Monday that it was prepared for the Jan. 8 elections.
