Tribute to journalists killed on duty

LONDON, Dec 31 (KUNA) — Union leaders in the UK Monday paid tribute to the 171 journalists killed in 2007 because of their job, with Iraq remaining the most dangerous country for the media.

The figure, only slightly below last year’s record 177 deaths, included 65 journalists killed in Iraq, more than a third of the worldwide total.
Other deaths included eight in Somalia, seven in Pakistan, six in Mexico and Sri Lanka and five in the Philippines.
