New Delhi : The government Tuesday cleared commercialisation of five new Bt cotton hybrids by JK Agri Genetics for the coming sowing season.
With the clearance given by Genetic Engineering Approval Committee (GEAC), it would bring the Bt cotton grown by this company to nine, including four Bt cotton hybrids which were approved last year, said a company release.
"This would give the company wider product range to meet the varying requirements of farmers from all the major cotton growing areas of the country spread across north, central and south zones," said Vikrampati Singhania, director, JK Agri Genetics.
"All these Bt cotton hybrids are being marketed under 'X – Gene' brand, which is gaining rapid popularity amongst the community."
