Damascus : Syria on Tuesday called on international organisations to ensure medical care and release of a Syrian prisoner held in Israel.
The call came through an official memo, sent from the Foreign Ministry to the secretary general of the United Nations, the chairman of the UN General Assembly, head and members of the UN Security Council and the Commission on Human Rights in Geneva.
In a press release, it said Besher Al-Maqt from the Golan is in bad health and is being kept in inhuman conditions in an Israeli jail.
The memo called for urgent action by international organisations to ensure providing Al-Maqt with healthcare, and releasing him and his Syrian companions, some of whom have been detained for 22 years.
It also pointed out to inhumane conditions Syrian prisoner Hayel Abu Zaid was put in, leading to his death in 2005, it added.
It said the international community was responsible for making the Israeli government comply with the international law, and especially the related Geneva agreements.
