Defence secretary starts 2 days Kashmir visit

Jammu : As a part of reviewing Security Scenario in Jammu and Kashmir, Union defence secretary Shekhar Dutt today visited to twin militancy infested districts of Rajouri and Doda of Jammu Division.

Dutt who heads the Panel constituted by Prime minister is here on a two days visit with team of officers to assess if the situation was right for 'relocation of troops' in the comparatively peaceful areas of the state.

On the first day of his visit today Dutt visited Rajouri and Doda districts and held detailed discussion with the head of various security wings.

At Rajouri, sources told News Agency of Kashmir, the Central team held a detailed discussion about redeployment of troops and measures to curb cross border infiltration. Additional DGP BSF, CRPF GOC 16 Core, GOC Romeo Force, SSP Rajouri were present.

The team later visited Doda and reviewed the security situation there. The details of the meeting could not be ascertained immediately.

The team will flew to Kashmir Valley on Friday and is expected to held a detailed high level meeting after reviewing security situation at Kupwara, Awantipora and Baramulla districts of the region.

It is pertinent to mention here that the panel to revise the positioning of troops in the state was constituted after the persistent demand of troop's reduction by one of the major partner Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the Congress led coalition.

The Central team would submit its report to Defence Minister A.K. Antony after holding a meeting in Srinagar on Friday.
