Taliban militants ambushed Afghan forces with heavy machine guns, small arms and rocket-propelled grenades on Friday near Danjabad village, which is about 42 km northeast of Fire Base Farah, the statement said.

The forces fought back with small arms fire and called in coalition air strikes, it added.

Over 30 rebels were killed in the conflict, the statement said, adding five Afghan soldiers were injured.

About 13,000 coalition troops are operating in this country to hunt down militants.

Due to rising Taliban insurgency, over 2,700 persons, most of whom were Taliban militants, have been killed in Afghanistan this year.
