The explosion, which occurred at around 7:30 a.m. (0300 GMT), was targeting an ISAF convoy, a Xinhua reporter at the site said.

"An ISAF helicopter landed at the scene and took the injured ISAF soldiers away," he added.

No one has claimed responsibility, but Taliban militants have carried out similar attacks frequently.

Kandahar province has been a stronghold of Taliban rebels, who clash with government and foreign forces frequently.

About 37,000 ISAF soldiers are being deployed in Afghanistan to hunt down militants and keep security.

Due to rising Taliban insurgency, over 2,700 persons, most of whom were Taliban militants, have been killed in Afghanistan this year.
