Nayeemuddin could coach Bangladesh

Kolkata : Former India coach Syed Nayeemuddin has been offered the job of managing the Bangladesh football team and is likely to accept the assignment soon.

The 1992 Dronacharya Award winner, who had three stints at the helm of the Indian team, has also managed Kolkata giants East Bengal and Mohun Bagan besides Mumbai's Mahindra United during his illustrious career as a coach.

The Bangladesh Football Federation that made the offer has asked Nayeemuddin about his availability and also the remuneration he expects, reports in the Bangladesh media said Sunday.

The former Indian defender is likely to be in charge of the Bangladesh team till the South Asian Football Federation (SAFF) championship to be held in Colombo and Male in December. India is the defending SAFF champion.

Bangladesh has also confirmed its participation in next month's seven-nation ONGC Cup in New Delhi.

Nayeemuddin is currently in charge of Dhaka club Brothers' Union, the second time he is managing them. The club currently lies fifth in the Bangladesh league. Nayeemuddin guided Brothers' Union to their first national title in 2004.

Nayeemuddin started his playing career with Hyderabad Police before moving to Kolkata, where he was associated with Mohun Bagan, East Bengal and Mohammedan Sporting both as a player and coach.

He won the Arjuna Award in 1970.

The Hyderbabad-born Nayeemuddin has also coached the West Bengal and Andhra Pradesh state teams in the Santosh Trophy national championships besides the India Under-23 side.
