Omar survives bid on life

Srinagar : National Conference president Omar Abdullah escaped unhurt in a militants attack in Kupwara district of North Kashmir, this afternoon. Four persons including three Central Reserve Police Force personnel were wounded in the attack.

Official sources told News Agency of Kashmir that Omar had gone to Kraligund in Handwara area of Kupwara district when militants attacked him with rifle grenades at around 4 PM today.

The grenades, however, missed the target and exploded on the road side causing injuries to three CRPF personnel and a special police officer (SPO).

Giving details a senior police officer said that Omar was inside the house of a senior party leader at the time of the attack. He escaped unhurt, he added.

The grenades, he said, exploded 300 meters away from the house causing injuries to three CRPF personnel and SPO Fayaz Ahmad.

Reports said that the security forces and police immediately cordoned off the area and launched a search operation. However, militants reportedly managed to escape.
