PM postpone Jammu visit

Jammu, July 09 (NAK): Prime minister Dr. Manmohan Singh who was scheduled to visit Jammu tomorrow has postponed his visit for now on account of the national mourning announced on the demise of former Prime Minister Chander Shekhar.

Reliable sources told News Agency of Kashmir that the visit has been postponed for a week. How ever, the exact revised dates would be announced tomorrow.

Confirming the rescheduling of the visit, Vice Chancellor Jammu University Amitab Matoo said, "Prime Minister has postponed his visit for now on account of the National mourning announced on the demise of Prime Minister Chander Shekhar". He said the visit has been delayed for a week, but the exact rescheduled dates are likely to be announced by tomorrow.

Soon after the postponement of the Prime Minister's visit, the increased security arrangement was eased by lifting barricades and nakas laid across Jammu city.

During his day long stay in Jammu Dr. Singh had to attend Jammu University Convocation, besides laying foundation stone of two room cluster tenants for Kashmiri Migrants. At the Convocation he was to be honoured with degree of Doctorate of Letters.
