BJP wants FIR against UPA ministers for violating campaign code

Ranchi : The Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) has sent a petition to the Election Commission (EC) of India seeking action against United Progressive Alliance (UPA) ministers, including Lalu Prasad, for allegedly violating the model code of conduct while campaigning for Pratibha Patil.

"A First Information Report (FIR) should be lodged against the ministers for using official vehicles while campaigning for UPA presidential candidate Pratibha Patil.

"There is a standing order of the EC that official vehicles should not be used for any elections. Besides central ministers like Lalu Prasad and Prithviraj Chauhan, eight Jharkhand ministers used official vehicles which violates the model code of conduct," former Jharkhand chief minister and BJP leader Arjun Munda told IANS.

Pratibha Patil was in Ranchi Tuesday to seek support from legislators. She was accompanied by Lalu Prasad, Chauhan, Jayanti Natrajan and other leaders.

"The presidential election has been degraded by the UPA and the level of campaign launched by the UPA, particularly by the Congress, reminds us of municipal elections," added Munda.
