Consul-General Venu Rajamony told reporters Thursday the centre would receive till August 25 applications from Indian labourers seeking to legalize their status and added that those labourers who have lost their passports would be issued outpasses to go home, WAM news agency reported Friday.

Three counters were allocated for Air India, Indian Airlines and Air Arabia to issue tickets for those who completed their formalities, Rajamony said.

Director-General of DNRD Al Marri and Rajamony inspected arrangements to process the amnesty applications.

Al Marri thanked the Indian mission for the cooperation it extended to DNRD to facilitate amnesty procedures for Indian labourers.

The UAE cabinet last month had announced a three-month grace period for foreigners present illegally in the country to regularize their status according to the law or leave the country without penalty.
