New Delhi : Probing a human trafficking scam involving suspended Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Babubhai Katara, Delhi Police Saturday sought the media's help in identifying 11 people who went abroad through the racket.
"According to documentary evidence, at least 11 people – two women, two girls and seven men – have been sent to the US, Britain and Canada from Gujarat, Punjab and Andhra Pradesh in the past three years," Deputy Commissioner of Police A.S. Cheema said here.
"We are struggling to ascertain their real identities as they might have travelled abroad on fake visa and other documents," he said.
Releasing their pictures, Cheema requested the media to help them take the probe further.
"These people travelled by affixing their real pictures on the visa applications and passports, but their documents were fake. We want people to identify them for further investigations," he added.
Asked about the interrogations of four other MPs – Mitrasen Yadav, Ashok Rawat and Mohammed Tahir Khan of the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) and Ramswaroop Koli of the BJP – named in the trafficking scam, Cheema said they have sent some documents for verification and shortly appropriate action would be considered.
The official, however, denied allegations that the police were facing any pressure to botch up the investigation.
The human trafficking scam came into light with the arrest of Katara April 18 from the international airport here while he was trying to smuggle out a woman and a teenager on the diplomatic passports of his family members.
