Washington : Six men arrested last month for allegedly plotting attacks on US military base of Fort Dix in New Jersey have been indicted.
A grand jury in New Jersey Tuesday found five defendants of conspiring to attack the base and kill as many soldiers as possible, according to reports from agencies. The sixth man was charged for aiding and abetting the illegal possession of firearms.
The next step in the legal process is for the six to appear for arraignment on the indictment on a date yet to be scheduled, most likely next week.
All of them have remained in custody without bail since their arrests the night of May 7.
The men, all from the former Yugoslavia, were planning to use automatic weapons to shoot soldiers at the Fort Dix military base, according to court files.
No motivation of the plot has been revealed, but the suspects were described as "hard-core terrorists" by some investigators.
Fort Dix is a US army base that trains and mobilizes reserves, National Guard and active soldiers going to war.
In 1999, it was used to house refugees from Kosovo.
