Jaipur : The Oil and Natural Gas Corp (ONGC) will hold talks with the Rajasthan government Monday regarding the plan to set up a Rs.90 billion oil refinery in Barmer district.
Barmer, over 550 km from here, is where British oil exploration company Cairn has discovered oil reserves.
"We got a letter from ONGC inviting us for talks. We will send top officials to strongly put across the government's case," one official said.
ONGC had earlier dropped the idea of setting up a refinery in Barmer, saying the project was uneconomical.
The Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Ltd (MRPL), a subsidiary of ONGC, was selected by the petroleum ministry to establish a 7.5 million metric tonne per annum refinery.
