The showers brought relief from the scorching heat to millions of people.

T.N. Jha, director of the Bihar meteorological office, said that with the arrival of the monsoon, the entire state is expected to receive rains in the next couple of days.

Purnea, Kishanganj and Araria districts have experienced rainfall and are likely to receive more rain in the next two days, Jha told IANS.

"The monsoon is also active in Supaul, Katihar, Saharsa and Forbesganj as it has been raining there for the last two days," a weather official said.

Farmers, meanwhile, are a joyous lot and are celebrating the timely arrival of the monsoon. "A delayed monsoon creates trouble and misery for us," said Narendra Singh, a farmer.

Patna and neighbouring districts experienced pleasant weather since Sunday due to pre-monsoon showers. The state capital continued to be cloudy Monday.

"Monsoon is expected to reach Patna in the next three-four days," the official said.

The state government has directed the central flood control room to function round-the-clock from June 7 to Oct 15.
