Financial Times publisher interested in Wall Street Journal

New York : The two leading financial newspapers of the world – the Financial Times (FT) of London and the US Wall Street Journal – could be brought together under one roof.

FT publisher Pearson Plc was looking for partners for a takeover of the Journal's parent company – Dow Jones, the Wall Street Journal reported Friday, citing people familiar with the matter.

Such a deal would be a "long shot", the newspaper said in its online edition.

Such a move would put pressure on a standing offer of $5 billion from Australian media mogul Rupert Murdoch.

Pearson, valued at $13.9 billion, has apparently contacted Hearst Corp and General Electric Co as possible partners, the Journal reported.

Pearson spokesman Luke Swanson declined to comment when contacted by Bloomberg financial news service. Andrea Grinbaum, a spokeswoman for Dow Jones, said she had no information on the Journal report.

The Bancroft family that holds majority shares in the Journal said last month it would consider Murdoch's News Corp proposal as well as any other offers.
