Patna : Heavy rains in the past 48 hours have flooded at least 300 villages in north Bihar districts of Muzaffarpur, Sitamarhi and Darbhanga, local media reports said Saturday.
However, officials of the Flood Control Cell here have no information about the floods. "We have not received reports from the concerned district administrations about how many villages are flooded," said officials.
Heavy rains have damaged the Bagmati embankment in Muzaffarpur and cut off several areas from the district headquarters after several small bridges on the National Highway 77 submerged under the water, a Muzaffarpur district administration official said on condition of anonymity.
According to the Central Water Commission, the water levels of the Bagmati, Kosi, Gandak, Ganga and Punpun rivers are nearing the red level mark indicating tough days ahead.
