Srinagar : At least 11 police personnel were wounded when the vehicle they were travelling in was blown up early Sunday in north Kashmir's Bandipore district, police said.

The explosion took place when a bullet-proof vehicle of the anti-insurgency special operations group (SOG) of the Jammu and Kashmir Police hit a pre-planted improvised explosive device (IED) near Maloora village, around 20 km from here.

"There was a massive explosion and 11 police personnel were injured. They have been admitted to hospital for treatment," a police official said here.

The vehicle was extensively damaged in the blast on the Srinagar-Bandipore highway, he said.

Police and paramilitary officers were rushed to the spot. Searches were carried out in the area but no one was detained. No guerrilla group has claimed responsibility for the attack, the official added.
