The children, aged between 11 and 16 years, were kept at the juvenile home in Mana area in interior Raipur district along with 64 other offenders. Of them, two were facing rape charges while nine others were booked for theft.

According to a police officer, the escape attempt was going on for at least three nights and the children used iron rods to execute their plan.

“Surprisingly, the guards and caretaker of the juvenile home had no idea about what the children had planned,” the police officer added.

Police came to know about the incident only a few hours after the incident and cordoned off the whole area. All police stations in the city have been alerted. Police have also informed parents of the escaped children.
