Kuala Lumpur: India’s Feroz Ali won the Proton Terengganu Masters golf title in Kuala Terengganu, capital of Malaysia’s northern state of Terengganu.
A late challenge by Malaysia’s Mohammed Rashid Ismail failed to stop 37-year-old Ali, the New Straits Times said Wednesday.
The turning point for Ali, who finished the day with three-under 69, was at the 11th hole when Ismail missed a two-foot par putt.
Ali, a former Indian Open champion, kept a three-shot lead up until the 15th when Ismail managed to close in and trail by one with two straight birdies.
“I was consistent enough throughout the day although it was hard to stay focus on Rashid and Shaifubari hot on my heels,” said Ali after the prize distribution ceremony.
Ismail, meanwhile, said he only had himself to blame for missing some good opportunities, but was satisfied with his overall performance in the three-day tournament.
Ali received a trophy and 35,000 ringgit ($10,290) while another Malaysian golfer, Shaifubari Muda, who also made a late charge with five birdies to share second place with Ismail with a similar total score of 207, took home 19,500 ringgit ($5,735) each.
