Court officials said Shahabuddin was found guilty of stealing a vehicle that was recovered from his residence. He has been convicted under sections 411 and 414 of the Indian Penal Code.

However, due to lack of evidence, the court has acquitted him in a case related to kidnapping and extortion of former legislator Viren Pandey.

Currently lodged in Siwan jail, Shahabuddin was arrested in Delhi more than a year ago over the seizure of arms from his ancestral house in Siwan, 150 km from here.

A Lok Sabha member from Siwan since 1996, Shahabuddin is involved in nearly 40 criminal cases including murder, abduction, power theft and violation of the Foreign Exchange Act, the Arms Act and Wildlife Protection Act.

Last year, the state government set up a special court in Siwan jail to hear the criminal cases lodged against the RJD MP.

Shahabuddin was convicted for the first time in March this year in a case related to an attack on the local office of the Communist Party of India-Marxist Leninist (CPI-ML).

Last month, the special court awarded a life sentence to Shahabuddin after convicting him for the kidnapping and murder of Chhote Lal Gupta, a CPI-ML worker.
