Ghaziabad : The Ghaziabad jail authorities have beefed up security for jailed businessman Moninder Singh Pandher and his aide Surinder Koli, accused in the serial killings of at least 20 children and women, fearing they could be the target of murderous reprisals.

According to reports, some villagers of Nithari, where most of the children sexually molested and killed hailed from, have tried to enter Ghaziabad's Dasna jail premises, where the duo are lodged.

Jail superintendent V.P. Tripathi said: "We have changed their barracks and they are now kept in a high-security cell. We are also keeping a strict watch over the most minute development inside the jail."

Koli is the main accused in raping and butchering four women and 15 children. Pandher has been accused of involvement in prostitution and bribing police officials.

"The security at the jail was enhanced following an incident of jail break last month combined with the pent-up anger of Nithari residents after the Central Bureau of Investigation virtually exonerated Pandher in the serial rape and killing of their women and children," Tripathi said.
