Islamabad : At least 21 people were killed and several injured when a bus carrying pilgrims plunged into a gorge in northern Pakistan, media reported Monday.
The bus carrying 35 passengers came off a bend on a mountainous road Sunday night while travelling from the town of Mansehra to Islamabad's twin city of Rawalpindi.
The deal toll was feared to rise as several of the injured were in a critical condition, The News reported.
Most victims were pilgrims from Lahore, 270 km southwest of Islamabad, who were on their way home after attending a religious ceremony in Mansehra.
Pakistan has a high ratio of deaths in traffic accidents, with official figures showing that 5,027 people were killed on the roads in 2006.
