Lok Sabha adjourned twice over Maharashtra barrage

New Delhi : Lok Sabha was adjourned twice Monday after Telugu Desam party (TDP) members disrupted proceedings over the construction of the Babli barrage on Godavari river by the Maharashtra government.

The house was adjourned first 11.10 a.m. for 10 minutes and then again at 11.25 a.m. till 12 noon.

When TDP MP Yerran Naidu wanted to raise the issue, Congress MPs from Maharashtra tried to stop him and the proceedings were disrupted.

TDP is organising a public demonstration at Jantar Mantar opposing the project because they say the barrage would block water flow to the Telangana region in Andhra Pradesh. The area is heavily dependent on the Godavari river for drinking water and irrigation projects.
