Selvi, 31, the youngest of the central ministers, has been allocated the portfolio of minister of state in the home ministry, said a communiqué from Rashtrapati Bhavan here.

President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam administered the oath of office and secrecy to Selvi at a small ceremony held in the Rashtrapati Bhavan in the morning.

Selvi, first time MP from Tiruchendur in Tamil Nadu, has studied up to Class 10. She has been chosen to be a minister after DMK's Harvard-trained Dayanidhi Maran was asked to resign as communications and IT minister following a feud in party patriarch M. Karunanidhi's family.
