30 scholars of Sanskrit, Arabic, Persian presented awards

New Delhi : President A P J Kalam Monday presented awards to 30 scholars of Arabic, Persian, Sanskrit and Pali for 2006.

The Presidential Award of Certificate of Honour was given to 22 scholars of eminence over 60 years of age for their outstanding contribution in Arabic, Persia, Sanskrit, Pali/Prakrit.

It carries a monetary grant of Rs 50,000 per annum for life, a citation and a shawl to each of the awardees.

The award was conferred on 15 eminent scholars of Sanskrit, one scholar of Pali or Prakrit and three scholars each of Arabic and Persian every year.

Young scholars of Arabic, Persian, Sanskrit and Pali/Prakrit in the age group of 30 to 40 years were given the Maharishi Badrayan Vyas Samman which carries a one-time cash award of Rs 100,000 with a citation and a shawl.

In Arabic the awards went to Abubakr Md. Al-Hashmi, Prof. Abdul Aleem Khan and Prof. Abdul Ali

Those who were given President's Certificate of Honour in Sanskrit are Thangirala Bala, Gangadhar Sarma, Acharya Munishwar Jha, Prof. Usha Choudhari, Vasant Giridharlal Parikh, Mathura Datt Pandey, Ganga Datt Shastri, Sheshachala Sarma, Kamlesh Datta Tripathi,S. Krishnamurthy Sastry, Dr. Jagdamba Prasad Sinha, Dr. Parasnath Dwivedi, Shivji Upadhayaya Dr. Mansa Ram Sharma, Dr. Debabrata Sen Sharma and Dileep Kumar Kanjilal.

Dr. (Prof.) Prem Suman Jain was honoured for his contribution to Pali/Prakrit.

The award winners in Persian were Prof. Nargis Jahan, Prof. Mahmood Alam and Abdus Subhan

The Maharshi Badrayan Vyas Samman in Sanskrit was given to Buddeshwar Sarangi, N. Srinivasan, Ramchandra Budhial, S. Tatwamsi Dixit and Dr. Sukhdev Bhoi.

The award for Pali/ Prakrit went to Rajesh Ranjan while the award in Arabic was conferred on Dr. Mohd. Sanaullah and Persian to Dr. Sayed Kaleem Asghar.
