Home ministry sources said the centre was in touch with the state government and was closely monitoring the situation arising out of the violence following the standoff between Dera Sacha Sauda supporters and the Sikh community.

"We will act according to the ground situation," said a senior official.

The ministry sent two advisories to the Punjab government last week, besides dispatching 35 companies of paramilitary forces to the state.

The Sikh clergy and community leaders are angry after Dera chief Gurmit Ram Rahim portrayed himself in the manner of 10th Sikh guru Gobind Singh and have demanded his arrest.

Agitated Sikhs last week attacked a Dera campus in Punjab, leading to loss of one life and injuries to many.
